Materials for Paper Pop Up City for Kid

To prepare this kids art project, you’ll need:

A4 colored paper, colored paper sheets, scissors, glue, a craft knife, a ruler, and star-shaped stickers.

If your child prefers drawing instead of cutting colored paper, markers or pens work perfectly too.

How to Make a Paper Pop Up City

Start by folding the A4 colored paper in half. Place the folded edge at the bottom, then cut vertical lines using scissors. When cutting, make sure the pairs of lines on each side are the same length—this helps create balanced building shapes.

Open the paper and gently push the cut sections forward so they pop up. These sections become the city buildings. Cutting different heights allows you to create a skyline with varied building sizes, making the Paper Pop Up City for Kid look more dynamic and realistic.

Next, decorate each building with windows using colored paper or markers. Encourage children to design different rooftops and window styles so every building feels unique.

For the night sky, cut out a moon shape and attach it to the background. Add sparkling star stickers to complete the nighttime atmosphere. Glow-in-the-dark star stickers work especially well and shine beautifully in a dark room.

Decorate the bottom area with paper grass and flowers to finish the scene.

Creative Play Ideas

Once complete, the pop-up city stands up beautifully in 3D. Kids can observe their neighborhood at night and recreate it through this activity, or even turn it into a pop-up card project. You can also add LEGO figures or small toys to use the city as a playful background for imaginative storytelling.

This Paper Pop Up City for Kid activity is a fun way to explore city landscapes, develop fine motor skills, and encourage creative thinking—perfect for a relaxing summer evening or an engaging art session at home.
